Monday, August 5, 2019 was the first day of our All Girls Camp! As always we had the group introduce themselves and then get started with their first task. The students went outside to meet our sunflowers, “BFF”. These sunflowers were planted by the First Session kids with the help of our favorite dirt enthusiast, Keith Norris. For the next two weeks these girls will be taking turns in watering the sunflowers and helping them grow.
The first task these girls were assigned to do was to dismantle their computers. They were given all the necessary tools to breakdown their computers such as screwdrivers, magnets, and an anti-static wrist strap. The girls were also timed to how fast they were able to take apart the machine. When the girls were finished they had to immediately put it back together and see if it works. Almost every girls' computer was able to turn on.
Next all the girls were introduced to the various parts of a computer and did research on what each part does because they’re going to need to know them when Competition Friday comes around. From what I can see this group seems a little quite, but very motivated. As a student ambassador and having been through this experience these girls seem to have a lot of potential and I’m excited to see what they can do during the next two weeks.
